Madeleine Kessler, Rosie Hervey and Ness Lafoy collaborated to create the structures entitled Bat Boardwalk, Mossy Mound, Hedgehog House and Baya Weaver Den. Tess Wakeling also contributed to Baya Weaver Den.

The group are passionate about re-wilding our urban environment to positively contribute to human and planetary health. By working with humans, animals, plants and the landscapes they inhabit, they aim to contribute to a more inclusive, equitable and sustainable evolution of our cities.

We face a climate and biodiversity emergency. The structures they have created explore how we can learn from nature to use more regenerative materials in design. Each structure tells a fable, encouraging the public to use spaces along the route in new ways. They also create scalar worlds: testing grounds for novel ideas.

About Tess Wakeling

"My basketry work encompasses lighting for interiors, contemporary woven bags, and sculpture and installation projects. Geometry, balance and universal pattern all infuse into my work, as well as a desire to bring calming, natural texture into the home. I have been very inspired by Japanese aesthetics as well as Islamic art and find that woven surfaces allow so much exploration in pattern. Working with materials harvested and foraged from the land opens up a much more connected relationship for me with my craft. I love to explore the places where structured and precise meet wild and untamed.

Alongside my practise I teach basketmaking, both to the public and as a therapeutic craft for young people with complex needs. I love to pass on this ancient skill to others and witness the healing potential of working with natural materials."
